I’ve been a mom for 3 years now. In some ways it feels like I can’t remember a time without my children, without being a mother. At the same time, these three short years have gone by so quickly.
From the moment I found out I was pregnant with my son, motherhood shaped me more than anything else had ever done before.
I’d always wanted to be a mom. I’d always been a caretaker at heart and to create life with the man I love was a dream come true.
Motherhood is glorious and gross. It is elating and disturbing. It is awesome and fearsome.
It’s quiet moments of tenderness and moments of frustration, anger and fear.
It’s filled with tears of joy, sadness, pride and distress.
It’s certainty and it’s confusion all in the same moment.
It’s big smiles that melt your heart and it’s boogie noses.
It’s snuggles and it’s rejection.
It’s a joy filled struggle: a battle that we face each any every day. We wake up willing to conquer some days more than others, but we always rise refusing to surrender.
Mothering, being a parent, is the single most difficult thing I have ever done in my life. And we aren’t even close to the teenage years, yet.
Being a mom is a job that is respected by many and poo pooed by some.
I may not know you, I may not have ever spoken to you other than my words in this blog – but I want you to know that you are amazing. You are a warrior. And you deserve this day to be about you.
